Today, in the Amphitheater of the University of Skopje, the 11th Assembly of the Association of Geography Teachers of Macedonia "Prof. PhD. Ljube Milenkovski" - Skopje was held, at which its members celebrated their tenth anniversary.
In the crowded Amphitheater, the President of the Association, Prof. PhD. Ace Milenkovski, Rector of the University of Skopje, the institution that has been the main patron of the Association since its founding, first addressed and congratulated the geography teachers from primary and secondary schools in Macedonia on their anniversary.
"Geography must and will be a national subject!", he emphasized in his speech, firmly standing behind this initiative of the Association, which recently held a meeting with the Minister of Education, Prof. PhD. Vesna Janeva. "Geography is the basis for the development of the country and its positioning in the world, and politicians should and must listen to geographers," he emphasized.
The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Macedonia, H.E. Dragan Jaćimović, also addressed the audience. Delighted by the hospitality, the sense of humor and the optimism of the Macedonians, who remind him a lot of the country he comes from, Ambassador Jachimovich stated in his speech:
"Macedonia is my second homeland. I am happy to be a friend of the University of Skopje and of the Rector Ace Milenkovski!"
“I am trying and will do everything I can as an ambassador for this country,” he emphasized. The significance of the Association and its contribution to the affirmation of geography as an exceptionally important subject in national education is also evidenced by the fact that the former Ambassador to Bulgaria, Mr. Marjan Gjorchev, also congratulated the members on their anniversary. In his welcoming speech, he addressed the geopolitics of contemporary developments in our country and the region.
„With NATO membership, Macedonia is a semi-sovereign state, and for this we have concluded two unfortunate agreements – with Bulgaria and with Greece. Macedonia’s task is to be a guarantor of the security, development and economic stability of its citizens – but we are having a hard time doing so,” he stressed. In his video address to the attendees,
Prof. PhD Zhu Yashiong from Zhejiang University of Education and Vice President of the Zhejiang Province Chamber of Commerce, China, stressed the importance of economic cooperation for the development of Macedonia.
Before the start of the Association’s Session, his delegation laid fresh flowers on the grave of its patron, Prof. PhD Ljube Milenkovski. The end of the Session was marked by the awarding of Golden Plaques “Prof. Dr. Ljube Milenkovski” to distinguished and deserving professors, who have made a special contribution to the development of geography and the affirmation of the Association.
