Today, the 21st ITKF World Championship in traditional karate for veterans, seniors, youth, juniors and cadets and the 1st ITKF World Cup for children "Hidetaka Nishiyama" were solemnly opened at the "Kale" Sports and Recreation Center. The University of Tourism and Management in Skopje has been a long-time supporter of traditional karate in Macedonia.
The ITKF's mission is to promote traditional karate, which is based on traditional Japanese forms of this martial art, and advocates for it to become an Olympic category. Traditional karate is primarily a defensive skill, in which the advantage in combat is gained and controlled by the power of the mind, not physical strength.
For the first time, the Macedonian Traditional Karate Federation is the organizer of such a world event, in which more than 500 karate fighters from 44 countries participate. 78 competitors in all age categories and disciplines will perform for the Macedonian national team.
The 21st World Championship and 1st World Cup for Kids started on Friday, November 11, and will continue until Sunday, November 13. At the opening ceremony today, in the Kale Sports and Recreation Center, Rector Milenkovski was awarded a Plaque for a special contribution to the development of karate in Macedonia, as a sign of gratitude for the long-term support for traditional karate in the country.
