A delegation of the University of Skopje led by the rector Milenkovski, on the 16th March, visited the headquarters of the World Tourism Organization in Madrid. The activities related to the upcoming events were discussed with the representatives of the UNWTO in charge of cooperation with the associated members. The focus was on the 118th Executive Council in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and the 25th General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The admission of UTMS to the World Tourism Organization was officially confirmed at the 89th session of the Executive Council of this organization, held October 24-26, 2010, on the island of Kish in Iran. By that, UTMS became one of the elite universities in Europe in the world that are members of this most prestigious organization in the field of tourism. UTMS is also the holder of the TEDQual diploma for quality in higher education awarded by this institution for the period 2016-2020 and 2021-2024.

The World Tourism Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations and a leading international organization with a central role in the field of tourism. Its main commitments are the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism as a prerequisite for socio-economic progress of a country. 154 countries and over 400 associate members from the private sector, education, tourism, etc. are members of this most prestigious organization.
