Today, the day before Ilinden, the team of the University of Tourism and Management - Skopje is in Krushevo. In 1903, on this night, the bells of the city announced the beginning of the Ilinden Uprising.
The ideology of freedom of about 800 insurgents was the main goal in the struggle. Two days later, Nikola Karev proclaimed the Krushev Republic and became its president.
A national conception in the struggle for state-political and cultural emancipation of the Macedonian people as a separate identity in the Slavic world is revived through this act.
Franz de Jessen, editor of the newspaper "National Lidende" from Copenhagen, in the distant 1903, described the Macedonian freedom fighters with great sympathy: "They are not robbers, nor savages, but intelligent, educated people, representatives of the moral strength of the country ; people similar to us in everything and people who sacrificed themselves for a great idea."
Education is power and knowledge is leadership. Therefore, today the UTSM team, as one of the leading higher education institutions, whose mission is to educate and build active stakeholders in society, is present on this historic day. By reviving memories, by attending this event, the University tends to motivate young people to contribute to the growth and development of their own country.
