The University of Tourism and Management in Skopje is ranked first in the Republic of Macedonia for environmental protection and the 568th place in the world according to the UI Green Metric World Universities Ranking in 2017, found in the group of the world's finest universities and according to the criterion of environmental responsibility. UI GreenMetric is an initiative of Universitas Indonesia which aims to emphasize the importance of sustainability and care for the environment by universities around the world, as well as the measures that each ranked university will undertake to create a 'environmentally friendly' infrastructure. In that sense, since 2010, universities in the world (among which are the best) are ranked by Green Metric on the basis of the criterion "how much they are responsible for the environment". The evaluation platform created by Universitas Indonesia allows universities to measure the relationship to the environment and offer helpful tips for improvement in this field.

Green Metric supports internalization and puts focus on sustainability issues in order to increase global awareness of the environmental issues. In this ranking, universities are evaluated and ranked according to the criteria of infrastructure, energy, climate change, waste, water resources, transport and education.
